Seagoville, Texas is a city located mostly in Dallas County, with a small portion extending into Kaufman County. Founded in 1876 by T.K. Seago, an area land and business owner, the plot of land had to first be cleared of the dense forest before he could build his store. In addition to being a store owner, Seago was also the local postmaster in Seagoville, a post he maintained until about 1883. While living in Texas, Seago served in the Texas Legislature representing Comanche County.
While the early economy was very agriculturally dependent after Mr. B.F. Peak built a cotton gin, Seagoville did have its own newspaper in the early 1900s; the Seagoville Star (later known as the Seagoville News). While the town was originally named “Seago,” it was discovered in the early 1900s that there was another Texas town called, “Sego.” In an effort to avoid confusion, the U.S. Post Office renamed the town Seagoville in 1910. The city of Seagoville was officially incorporated in 1926.
