Carrollton, Texas is a city split between three different counties: Denton County, Dallas County, and Collin County. The settlers that made up this predominantly English colony were largely from Carrollton, Illinois – hence the name Carrollton. Many of the area’s early settlers were big landowners, and agriculture played an important early role in Carrollton’s development; however, this all changed after the completion of the Dallas-Wichita Railroad through Trinity Mills in 1878. With the new railroad, industrialization moved into Carrollton – further strengthened when the railroad was extended to nearby Denton in 1880. In 1912, the gravel industry came to town and one year later – Carrollton was incorporated as a city.
