Irving, Texas is a city located in Dallas County, within the Dallas-Plano-Irving metropolitan division of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metro area. Founded by J.O. “Otto” Schulze and Otis Brown in 1903, Irving was thought to have been named after the author, Washington Irving. The area now known as Irving was originally settled in 1889 and called Gorbit, changing its name in 1894 to Kit. Irving, Texas was officially incorporated in 1914.

It wasn’t until the 1930s that the population started to see an increase. With several manufacturing plants opening in Irving, as well as numerous transportation, retail and financial corporations, the job scene in Irving was thriving by the early 1960s, and the population had expanded to an estimated 45,000. The University of Dallas opened its doors in 1956 and Texas Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, was completed in 1971.
