Murphy, Texas is a city located in Collin County and is considered a suburb of Dallas. It is situated in between Plano and Wylie within the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. Settled in 1846, the original town site of Murphy was named Old Decator, after the landowner, C.A. McMillen’s, hometown. It wasn’t until the Southwest Railway reached the area in 1888 that residents decided to rename the town Murphy, in honor of Mr. William Murphy, who donated his land to the railroad. While population growth in the Murphy area was stagnant through much of the 1960s it soon turned into a flourishing commuter community. In 2011, the city of Murphy was ranked #27 on “Money Magazine’s” list of the best small towns in America.
