North Richland Hills, Texas is a city found in Tarrant County and is a suburb of Fort Worth. While it wasn’t incorporated as a city until 1953, North Richland Hills began as a community of 600 families who moved there in 1848. Tarrant County was officially established in the following year with Birdville, the town adjacent to where North Richland Hills now sits.
An early farming and ranching community, the area surrounding modern-day North Richland Hills remained predominantly agricultural for years. In 1952, farmer and landowner Clarence Jones decided to develop a portion of his dairy farmland into a residential area. After North Richland Hills was officially incorporated with a population of 500, the city started annexing surrounding communities, thereby drastically increasing the number of residents. As of the official 2000 census, North Richland Hills is home to more than 55,000 people.
