Farmers Branch, Texas is an inner-ring suburb of Dallas and is considered part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. The area was first settled back in the 1840s and 1850s, following the acquisition of some land grants in 1842 by Thomas Keenan, Isaac B. Webb, and William Cochran. Originally called Mustang Branch after the Mustang grapes that grew there, the name was eventually changed by Cochran to Farmers Branch.
Farmers Branch started to gain recognition throughout the U.S. and in Europe, thanks to advertisements put out by the Texan Land and Emigration Company/Peters Colony Company, which introduced 2,205 families of settlers into North Central Texas between 1841 and 1848. Farmers Branch was incorporated as a community in 1946.
