Frisco, Texas is a city located in Collin and Denton Counties, a rapid suburb of Dallas. In 2003, the city of Frisco was named “Tree City USA” by the National Arbor Day Foundation, and in 2007 honored with the National Arbor Day Foundation Growth Award. This award is bestowed upon a city in acknowledgment of its various environmental improvement efforts and the higher level of care and attention given to the area’s trees. In 2009, the U.S. Census Bureau listed Frisco, Texas as the fastest growing city in the nation.
As one of the oldest north-south thoroughfares in the entire state, little communities and towns started popping up right along the trail, including a town called Lebanon. Following the arrival of the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway in the area, watering holes had to be placed along the route, serving as train stops for the train’s steam engines. Unfortunately, the town of Lebanon was at too high an elevation, so the watering hole was placed four miles west instead, where the elevation was lower and a more suitable groundwater resource. A community grew around this railroad watering hole and the city of Frisco was born. Eventually, residents opted for the name Frisco City, in honor of the railroad on which the town was founded – later this was shortened to Frisco.
