Hurst, Texas is a city in Tarrant County and is considered one of the “Mid-Cities” located between Fort Worth and Dallas. One of the area’s more prominent settlers, William L. Hurst (the man for whom Hurst was named) arrived shortly after the Civil War, with other families from Tennessee and Indiana. Originally named Hurst, the community briefly went by Ormel, after another Hurst, Texas was discovered in Coryell County. It was officially named Hurst in 1909.
From 1910 to 1920, Hurst had between twenty and thirty residents. Also aiding in Hurst’s population growth was its status as a “bedroom community,” where people who worked in nearby Fort Worth would only come home to sleep. As of the 2010 census, the population in Hurst was an estimated 37,337 people.
