The Colony, Texas is a city located in Denton County and a suburb of Dallas. Created in 1969 by home developers Fox and Jacobs, who wanted to create a new “dream city” modeled after Dallas. The Colony was to include predominantly single-family homes, grouped together as little “colonies” officially incorporated in 1977. The population of The Colony has grown significantly since then, aided by a merger with another community, Eastvale in 1987. The city has a rich heritage of supporting athletics, and developing star athletes. In fact, The Colony was named Sports Illustrated 50th Anniversary Sports Town of the United States in 2003. In addition to athletics, The Colony is known for its local marching band, The Colony High School Marching Band, which proudly marched in 1997’s Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California.
