Important Things to Know Concerning Your New Home Comfort System

What to Know About Your New Home Comfort System

Steps to set up your Home Comfort System

  1. How to program your thermostat
  2. How to air balance your home
    • Eliminate hot and cold spots in your house.
  3. How to change your filters
    • Clean air filters help your system run 15-20% more efficiently!

Why It’s Important to Discharge Static Electricity

Did you know that you can ruin your thermostat with static electricity?

If you do not ground yourself before touching the thermostat, the static electricity can cause the following issues:

1. temporarily scrambling your thermostat’s screen

2. permanently ruining your thermostat’s display

3. shorting out your thermostat

Sometimes you can reset your thermostat by turning off the power to the unit and turning it back on, or taking the batteries out of the thermostat and reinstalling them.

GET RID OF STATIC ELECTRICITY BY GROUNDING YOURSELF BEFORE TOUCHING YOUR THERMOSTAT!

Why You Need To Change Your Filters!

Did you know that you can save up to 15% on your energy usage by regularly replacing your air filters?

Dirty air filters are the #1 issue we see causing Home Comfort Systems to run inefficiently. A dirty air filter…

  • restricts airflow, making it harder for air to move throughout your home and making your Home Comfort System work harder
  • causes allergy attacks and decreases the quality of your indoor air
  • increases your energy bill and may lead to system breakdowns

REMEMBER TO CHANGE YOUR AIR FILTERS ONCE A MONTH DURING THE PEAK SEASONS.

Air Balancing Your New Home

Air balancing is part of homeowner maintenance and should be performed at the beginning of each season. If you feel like your Home Comfort System is not keeping you comfortable or notice an increase to your utility bill, then air balancing your home may be a solution.

Test your temperatures at the same time each day and wait 24 hours after making adjustments to allow your system time to redistribute the air throughout your home.

We take your comfort seriously. If you run into air balancing issues that you cannot address using the tips we have provided, please feel free to call us for assistance. We would be happy to come out and assist you with air balancing your home. Please note that there may be a fee for help with air balancing and/or vent flowing.

Cooling Season

  •  Set your thermostat to a temperature of between 72-73 degrees and let it run for at least 24 hours. This setting will allow you to feel slight changes in temperature so you will know when adjustments are necessary. Note what time of day you are experiencing hot and cold spots, if any.
  • In the areas that are too warm, check the ceiling and wall vents to make sure they are wide open.
  • In the areas that are too cool, slowly adjust the ceiling and wall vents to restrict the airflow. Adjusting the vents for less airflow will also help to redistribute the cooler air into warmer areas of your home.
  • After 24 hours of letting your system run, recheck the areas that you were experiencing hot and cold spots. Make sure you check them at the same time of day you were initially feeling the hot and cold spots.
  • If the rooms are still warm, continue adjusting the vents in small increments in the areas which are cooler. Repeat the process until you have reached your desired temperature in all rooms.
  • This is not a one step process. You may have to make 4-5 adjustments to get the temperature points where you would like them to be.

Heating Season

  • Check to make sure all major leaks to the outside are taken care of. Faulty door and window seals can cause cold drafts.
  • While heating your home, keep in mind that heat rises and that extra heat provided through the vents upstairs isn’t always necessary. In fact, it may result in making rooms hotter than you intended. To redistribute the air back downstairs where the heat is needed, adjust the vents upstairs /in warmer rooms by closing them incrementally.
  • Perform the same procedure listed above to air balance your home by setting your thermostat to 70-72 degrees, letting it run for at least 24 hours, rechecking hot and cold spots, and making adjustments as needed.
